    Replacing headbolts, sequence

    I have the mcmaster superstrength headbolts as a little upgrade for the turbo 25i. I'm going to be putting them in sometime soon and have a question.

    i know i should start from the inside out, (loosening the headbolts) just like the sequence in removing the head. I plan on removing just one at a time and replacing it to avoid having to pull the head. Should i loosen ALL of the headbolts, in sequence, a little, before completely removing one? or leave them all tight and start in sequence but completely removing them.

    thoughts?

    The bentley manual says if you are just replacing head bolts (like changing from hex to Torx) do them one at a time.

      I kinda disagree with not pulling the head especially because you're going to be running boost, otherwise I would probably say it was ok.

        Don't worry about it, you'll be fine. unless of course you have a bad gasket, there is no need to pull the head. all that will accomplish is you gettign a good look at your carbonized pisotns...

          It makes little sense to go to all this trouble and not replace the head gasket and clean out the head bolt threads. But the best thing to really do is not listen to any of these swell guys (not that they are wrong or misleading) but to follow the directions in your manuel or just try the removal directions in reverse. Just speaking from my own perspective. Good luck

            didn't know we had an expert in here...if he wanted to go to the manual he wouldn't have asked. also, the manual says nothing about replacing bolts without removing the head. that is where you need an opinoin from someone with experience.
