    Removing tranny, Stuck on the Starter!

    Top bolt on starter is not being freindly, any secrets? short 17 n U joint dosnt seem to go on the nut far anof, and no chance of a box end, is there a secret? this clutch job is becoming a PITA, wish my engein hoist wasnt broken at the momunent, thanks for any pointers...

    I put a jack under the oil pan (with a 2x4 inbetween) and jacked up gently there so as tilt the motor/tranny backwards. Then I used like 3 feet of extensions and a swivel joint.

      Yep, undo the tranny mounts and use a floor jack to tilt the motor to your advantage. Also a spare set of hands with a box end or 17mm socket (sorry cant remember which) in the engine compartment for the starter nut is a big plus.

      Also ditto on the extentions. A second U-joint could help too but I managed without one.

        Well thanks i was able to get it out with a few U Joints and extentions and well I finished to clutch install last night, but I come to find that the cluch is not disingaugin. sec cylc is pushing, think i might of put the clutch plate in backwards... back to the floor going to take it all apart again..

          Be glad you car is an M20 as the M10 Top starter bolt was a BITCH to get back in, I ended up leaving it off and spent an hour latter sticking it back in as as the car wouldn't start quickly. ON the M20 I just reached up held it in place and tightend down.

            Yea, did the cluch today again, clutch plate was backwards oops.. well i cut a day and 1/2 job into 3 hours wee anyway it was fun the new clutch is nice and the trow out bearing dosnt sound like hell now,! the clutch pedal is alot easyr to push now and wish it was stiffer but what do you do!
