    Z4 shift lever

In less then a month, I am hiring a friend of mine (pro BMW tech) to help me put in:

    99 M3 tranny
    New clutch
    M3 driveshaft
    3.46 LSD W M coupe Diff cover
    New Starter

I currently have a UUC shifter, but after getting some seat time in the Z4, I like the Z4 lever. The shift is not so much shorter, it just seems more "modern." It also lowers the kob position. Bad ass! Going from the basic UUC kit to the Z4 lever, what will I need? Just the lever or anything else? Part number?

Feel free to link me to another thread where this has already been talked about.

Don't waste money on the finned diff cover Eric. On a street car it doesnt make a damn bit of differerence. Even on track cars, it only lowers the diff oil temp by a couple ºF. Its not worth the price.

Putting headers on for cosmetic purposes isn't worth the price either :D

Bumping this :!: because my next mod I would like is a SSK, and I have also read some good stuff about the z4 lever, but am uncertain about what exactly I would need, or a kit I could buy.

          bump

I would also like to know the required parts if anybody has done the z4 shifter swap. How much is it at the dealer?

But in turn i will gain.

The finned diff cover is useless.

That sounds good, but is that all someone would need to do the swap? Anything in that list that could/should be upgraded to make it operate smoothly or is that a good kit as is?

BMA = BMA Auto Parts, an online vendor of car parts. www.bmaparts.com

                        They have pretty good prices.

All ya need to do is replace the lever with the 2.5L Z4 p/n 25 11 7 507 964....but for best results, get the Delrin bushings from UUC (maybe you already have them with your setup). I only replaced my lever and have been very happy with the results. Never tried the Delrin's but they are highly recommended by those who have used them with the lever.

                          Good luck!

I remember an old thread on E3S that discussed that the Z3 shifter was smoother compared to the Z4 shifter. Anyone can compare the two? I plan on getting the M Roadster's since it is lower than the Z3, but a tad taller than the Z4 which I heard might be a bit too low for some.

Anyways anyone got the gist over the Z3 compared to the Z4?
