    318i questions???

New to this forum so hey everyone

I am currently looking at buying an 84 318i which needs some work. I am just wondering if there is anything that is known to go wrong with the m10 motor or the older 318i's in general. Also, this car is in need of back brake lines (the steel ones). Has anyone ever tackled the job of doing their brake lines and is it a PITA or relatively easy? It has about 230,000 miles on it and the body still looks in good condition.

    Any help is greatly appreciated....

    Thanks

That, and some other key information would be quite crucial. 318's are really not worth lots of work, if it needs to be done (correct me if I'm wrong?). Rear drums are on there too.

How are the shocks? is the tranny a 4 or 5 spd? (or, an auto...if so, run! :x)

The last thing you want is an automatic 318i... ;)

Just let us know if you have anymore useful information though.

Thanks for the relpies. It is a 5spd or I definitely wouldn't even look at it. Asking price is $650 CDN but I am hoping to talk him down to $500 and then go from there. Tires and rims are in very good condition, interior looks clean too. From what I can tell, the engine runs fine (230,000 miles), but the rad is cracked where the upper rad hose goes on and the guy says the back steel brake lines need to be done. Suspension appears to be in good condition. Other than that, this car looks in good condition. It has been sitting for about 8 months the guy said. I am really just looking for something to fix up over the summer and something that will also be relatively good on gas (university student), so this looks like the way to go.
