    Faulty ECU?

    Hello people :D

I own a 325i with the 380 ecu in it. The car is a swap, and I bought it after the swap was made so I cant be 100% sure if the ecu is the right for that engine. ( I know that 325's had that ecu but I dont know if my engine was produced with that ecu )

Anyway, as of some days now, I decided to tune the car a little bit. My plans are for some more or less 200-210 hp ( if everything goes as planned ) but thats not something that will be done over a week, cos of the money needed.

I bought an ebay chip ( I know, I know... ) and an exhaust manifold. The manifold is in its way, and the chip arrived today. I already installed it and Im having some issues concerning the ecu.

Before the installation of this chip ( with the stock one ), the rev limiter was at 6100 rpm. Thats question No.1 : Does any of you know if the 380 ecu comes with 6100 rpm rev limit? I used to own a 320 before that, and the rev limit was at 6500, and a friend of mine with a 325 has the 6500 rev limit as well..

That leads to question 2 : After installing the chip and going for a ride, everything was normal ( except for a few minutes when the car was kinda rough to drive, but that was cos of the new chip, it adapted pretty quick ) the rev limiter was STILL at 6100 rpm...

Shouldnt it be raised? Even with those cheap chips, the rev limit should be at least +400 as with almost everything else. ( the 320 I used to have was chipped and revving at 6900 with an ebay chip, and had actually a bit more torque in the high rpms, not something special, but it was noticeable ).

Ive even tried once, when I first got the car, with the chip I had on the 320 ( ecu was 173 ) and the rev limit didnt change.

Thats why Im thinking if the ecu is kinda faulty or something like that. I must say also that other than the rev limit, the car runs perfectly, no glitches, idles normally, and all that.

Anyone got any ideas on that? Im worried because I intend to buy a MarkD chip, and if I cant get the limiter to be at AT LEAST 6500 ( it should be 6900 if it was acting normally from the beginning ) then I dont know what I should do.

Would putting a 173 ecu fix the issue? I suppose the 173 ecu would work on this engine right?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I need rpms damn it :x

Thanks a lot in advance. :)

Well, I contacted the seller of the chip, and he informed me that his chips dont raise the rev limiter.

I noticed a somehow more aggresive / torquy ( did i spell that correctly? ) behavior on the car, and I pretty much liked it. It pulls stronger and doesnt hang at all. Im keeping it for a while until I either get a Mark D chip, or a custom made whenever possible.

Case closed, cpu NOT faulty. Thank God, if there is one. :)
