failed inspection cause of front end

well i just failed my damn inspection so i got a big R sticker on my car now and the guy said it was because of my front end, he didnt know what it was just that it felt loose, anyone got any tips of what to look at and change, i just recently changed my CABs so i was thinkin maybe inner tie rod and rod ends or something, anyone know where to get some good aftermarket things for the front end, that will hopefully fix whatever problem there is.

There are 8 ball joints up there that it could be. Bad wheel bearings can also make it feel loose as well. Just have to get in there and inspect it.

well the guy said he could feel it up in the steering column, and the inner tie rods seemed sloppy but he wasnt certain about the cause

There is a 32mm collar nut on the steering column right above the gas pedal that you can crank on... that usually will eliminate the slight click and play on center that airbag cars a plagued with.

In addition to what was mentioned:

            Control arm ball joints
            Tie rods
Steering rack bolts could be loose (the ones that hold it to the subframe)
Steering column U joints under the hood

I have a little play on the steering also, but passed inspection, does the rack of the E30 have an adjustment nut to tighten and eliminate play somewhere ?

A renault I had once did have a nut, But I looked and couldnt find one in the E30.

It's just where the rack bolts to the subframe. They can become loose sometimes.

You can do one of two things:
Replace both sides inner and outer tie rods, replace both control arms. You'll have a solid front end.

or have it inspected, and replace the worn part, could be just one could be more.
