OK, Here's the deal.
The colder the weather is the harder it is for my 88 325is to start.
-The battery cranks the starter and motor just fine.
-Plenty of throttle feathering and manuevering is required to get her to start.
-Once started there is alot of that rich unburnt fuel smell in the large cloud of exhaust, and strong rich smell in general untill she is at normal opperating temp but even then it's still kinda there.
-Also when cold she holds a very low rough idle.
-It also seems that if, after started(while still cold), I open her up and hold her at 3500-4000 rpm there is kind of a quick miss(almost a gurgle) as if she is coughing out some phl(fuel)em, if i continue it seems to work its way out in a few seconds.
I have checked my Idle Control Valve as described in the Bently. I have been told that maybe its an o2 sensor problem but I've since had that replaced with no change in the problem.
People have suggested checking for vacume leaks in intake bellows and booster lines I have none. People have suggested AFM and I've tried one off of a normal opperating e30is with no success. The only thing suggested that I havent tried is the coolant temp sensor. I haven't tried this because I am unsure as to which one it is(the Injector temp sensor that screws into the thermostat housing;or the three-prong temp sensor that screws into the radiator).
I have tried searching the forums and had no luck finding a good answer. Although when I have seen others ask this question they leave it as simple as "car hard to start when cold" it is my hope that the info provided will set off an alarm in someones mind and give me a good place to start.
