    Weird RPM dependent noise

I've been hearing a high pitched noise recently coming from what seems to be the engine bay. I thought it was speed dependent, but I tried revving my car in neutral and it still made the noise. It gets louder as the revs climb. I have no clue what it could be...any suggestions?

I was thinking it was a belt-related problem too. I'll check in a bit and get back to you guys on that. Thanks for the suggestion!

It's a whine that grows in pitch as the revs climb.

Belts sort of "screech", a whine could be your alternator, but i haven't seen that in decades (literally);)

I'm not entirely sure of the difference..lol. It might be a screech, but it's dark now, so I'll check tomorrow.

Mine's got that too. It's a supercharger! Not really, but it almost sounds like one. LMK what you find out.

Spray your belt pulleys with a little WD40 and see if it goes away. It wont hurt them, and it won't cause them to slip. I did that to mine and they are silent now, its a huge difference.

mine made the noise and i replaced them, and when i took the belts off every other nub was worn off. turns out they were the stock belts.........

My E36 did that, it did sound like a supercharger. It was the belt tensioner. Sorry can't spell.
