    wierd battery problem

ok this is a little complicated, so i will try to sum it up as easily as i can.

    here is the problem.

when i start my car in the morning or whenever it starts fine, but the battery light is on full blast. then if i kick the rpm's above 1500, the light shuts off and goes very dim. if my sub is on at this time it makes a loud whining noise, rpm dependant. it seems as if my voice coil is matching the frequency of my engine. i dont know if this has anything to do with it, i just wanted to throw it out there.

now as i drive the light gets brighter as the rpm's climb. then when i shift the light gets dimmer. it never fully goes out, but it is the most dim when the car is just idling after it is warm.

i dont have any battery drain problems, so that isnt a factor, but do any of you guys have any ideas? is it a bad ground to the alternator?

Could be a shot belt, my light never came off until i got a new one.

I just replaced the belt. would an incorrect tension on the belt cause this? i dont think i hercules'ed the thing tight.

If it was very loose you could get this.

The alternator may simply be going bad as well. Check for good ground connections off of the engine and at the battery too.

The whining sound under load, the sub, leads me to think alternator.

ok, autozone has a thing where it can check your alternator. and if it is bad i will just replace it after i do the swap.

it doesnt drain the battery, so i dont think it is that much of a dire need. but thanks for all the info guys.

That's going to be a bad alternator, or more electrical load than the alternator can supply (like from a ridiculous sound system). In rare cases it may be the alternator drive belt, but that is almost always accompanied by screeching noises from the engine bay.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

all i have done to my sound system is a headunit. and my belts are quiet.
