    Messed up injector tip

I'm putting in the pink tops into my M50 manifold and I had a close look at them. They all look good except a few of them have what look to be melted fins around the nozzle... is this normal? Is it a sign of something bad happening to the engine? Should I replace the ones that have this?

    This is the worst one:

I had a look inside all the intake ports, they all look clean and shiny like this one. It's bugging the crap out of me... the S52 intake manifold is perfect. The seller is a very kind and trustworthy person, he wasn't even intending to sell the engine, he had it in his restoration shop (mint 2002) to put into his 318 but he wasn't interested in that anymore so I convinced him to sell it. He said the compression figures were all good... can I test compression by handcranking the engine? (ie just turn the crank bolt)

Well, looks like my paranoia is unfounded. The seller said that the manifold on the original was broken, they replaced it with the manifold and injectors from a 328. They did do a compression test on the S52 and it was around 165-170 across the board...

But back to the injectors, should I replace the gimpy looking ones? Or get them flowmatched?

don't skimp on your swap, buy new injectors and sell those to someone that is okay with doing a half-ass job

What the hell happened to those injectors!

I have good 70k mile pink top 21.5 lb/hr injectors that I'll sell for $60 shipped.

I don't think pintle caps are available separately.

I would be more concerned about what was wrong with the engine to cause it to do that to the injectors.

Otherwise it's like pulling a prematurely fouled spark plug and just replacing it with a new one without fixing the issue that caused the original plug to foul.

Only injectors are much more expensive than spark plugs.

Yup, that's what I've decided on. Any recommendations on the shop?

Don't care anymore. Like I said above I contacted the engine seller and he told me the original manifold was damaged and they replaced it with one from a dead 328 (not for me, but he was planning to put it into his car like this).
