    DIY plug wires from autozone/pepboys/kargen....

Can someone remind me why we can't use the DIY kits that are sold at autoparts stores for plug wires. I'm talking about a "you cut it to length" kind of kit.

Sure the stock has the plastic housing, and the sensor (but if you are cutting it anyways, just slip it over it!!!)

Stealer price for plug wires for my m30 are ~$350. Even at $150 from a parts seller, I think that's high.

    Anyone? Buler?

The rumor I heard is that the plugs for our engines are designed to end up with the exact same total resistance, even with the greatly differing wire lengths. WIth DIY cables you'll have low resistance in the short wires and high in the long ones. Apparently the differing resistance greatly upsets the ECU. I have nothing to back this up though, it's just what I've heard...

OEM plug wires have resistors in the boots.

According to the Realoem ETK each boot at the distributor and at the plug has a 1000ohm resistor.
