    Welders?

Looking for comments from people who have experience welding. I am wanting to have a small welder to use in the garage to use on little car projects. Like putting in reinforcements on subframes and stuff like that. Not like I am welding a car together or anything. I am looking at the welder at the link below. Flux core so no shielding gas. I welded in high school (only 2 years ago) and I thought MIG was pretty easy, stick welding I just didnt like but I was alright at it. And I sucked at TIG. My question is... If I am going to be welding reinforcements on subframes, what size wire should I use? The .030 flux core wire? Or the .030 mild steel wire? Or what? Thanks for your input.

no way. Spend a bit more an get something with the argon. You will get better stronger an cleaner welds. Flux core sucks spend the extra hundred an get a better unit.

        +1

Pick up a used setup for $500 rather than buy just a flux core setup. You will regret it later. Its the difference between having a 12pt socket on a torque wrench vs. a big ass pair of vice grips.

Miller just came out with a new variable feed MIG thats under $1,000. Look at that or the classic Miller/Lincoln 135

Spot on. Flux core is a pain in the ass.

The welder in the first link will work but you need to gas kit as well. Although if you have a 220 outlet in your garage, that would be even better.
