I recently developed some sort of leak (I thought it was oil). It drips from the tranny bellhousing/engine mating area. It's pretty slow. The picture below is over 12 hours. At first I thought it was oil from the rear main seal, which I discovered on Sunday or Monday. But today I came out and saw this stuff. Looks like the pudding crap that you see when you have a blown headgasket, but my coolant and oil look clean to me. Can anyone guess what it could possibly be? Sorry for the crappy pic, I took it with my cellphone in horror. It is more of a moca brown, like a coffee with lots of milk. I'm in the process of building another head, so I'm hoping it's a headgasket problem instead of a dumb rear main seal.

Really hard to tell in that pic what it is exactly. Looks white to me. You said it was maybe coming from the trans? Sounds like a rear main seal and that is milky coolant from your bad head gasket.

Thanks for the welcome. I've lurked on here for some time while researching which parts to use for my head build.
My guess is the rear main seal, but why did the oil turn milky like this? It is the colour of milky coffee. Looks white in the pic cause of my cell phone/lighting I guess. Wouldn't oil/coolant mix be too thick to come out of the rear main seal?

If oil can come out, then water can too. Don't forget, water and oil do not mix well. Can you check under the car to see if the bell housing is wet? Maybe the leak is coming from the rear most part of your oil pan. Have you checked your coolant res? I bet it does not look right eaither. Take a look at the oil filler cap. That may have some signs of oil/coolant mixing. Any way we look at this, your head gasket is not looking too good. Just we hope you don't have to pull your trans too.Originally posted by cabriodster87"Honey? What color is this wire? Is it the same as that one? Are you sure? I don't believe it. OK, it works. Rear main seal. Not sure why it is that color though. Is your clutch slipping?Originally posted by cabriodster87"Honey? What color is this wire? Is it the same as that one? Are you sure?
