Jerky start and second gear shift 325i

On my 87 325i 5spd;car is warm and running fine. When I start out in 1st it will tend to stall ie I need to give it more gas than normal, then when I shift into 2nd there is a jerk and to a lesser extent this continues into 3rd and 4th.What is happenning is that the engine RPM's are dying down too fast ie the whole drive line to the clutch are turning faster than the flywheel, hense the jerk.It doesn't happen all the time.I have self titled this as "kickback" and seem to remember reading about this problem somewhere but?I replaced the eng. temp sensor that goes to the computer and it seemed to have fixed it but now and again it's back.Just had the car in for a diagnostic for another problem and they found nothing relating to this.Any help is appreciated, thank's

You are experiencing the same thing I am as well as a few others that have out of tune cars. Where is your idle? When you hit the gas is there a little stumble? You need to start with the basics (as I will do Saturday) and check your plugs, distributor cap & rotor, wires, adjust your valves to .006-.008 COLD (replace valve cover gasket & rubber plugs), fuel filter, air filter....

THEN and ONLY THEN can you look at the idle. Get your car in a state of tune then look to the intake side. Vacuum leaks? Check the ICV - any problems there? Mine improved drasticlly with a little clean. Check and replace old hoses, check all fittings for leaks. If no leaks on the intake side and motor is in tune then adjust idle at the TB (don't forget the TPS) to ~750rpm. Once your motor is in a good state of tune this should not happen any more.

Every time I make an improvement, ran sea foam through the intake & fuel, replaced plugs, changed air filter, cleaned up ICV, etc. there was noticable improvement. I would venture to guess that you will get the same result.

    good luck!!!
