is having LSD worth the slight decrease in acceleration?

    i have a 318ic now... with the 4.27 diff

i can tell the difference between my car and a 318i coupe/sedan

is it worth having the LSD in my case?

Decrease in acceleration? I doubt it would be noticeable. 0-60 in 10.9 seconds instead of 10.8 wouldn't cramp your style too bad, would it?

If you are talking about karlo's 318is, it has a 4.10 open in it. So the difference you are feeling is not the LSD, but the wider ratio differential.

LSD only kicks in when the each tire is spinning at two extremely different speeds. It will not affect straight line acceleration. Like everyone said, it is because your final drive ratio is different than your buddy's.

try launching with an open diff. then try it with an LSD. it majorly affects straight line.

annnnd if im not mistaken all the newer 318 e30s including the vert had 4.10 diffs. so unless youre comparing to an older like '84 '85 318.. i think the only difference you would be able to notice is whether there is LSD or not. and yeah its definately worth having it.

            especially in rwdrifts case!

I would much rather have a LSD. You should even see decreased revvs on the freeway and better fuel economy with longer gears with a 4.10 vs a 4.27. You didn't buy a 318ic to go fast anyway, you bought it to cruise around.... (Pure assumption)

i believe some of you may have mistaken my question...

is the decrease in acceleration (going from my 4.27 ratio down to a 4.10) worth it to have LSD

but thanks for the info! i've made my decision =)

                      I would say yes. Going from a 4.27 to a 4.10 isn't THAT big of a difference.
