    power steering delete

i picked up a 325i fairly recently and i've got the engine out. i pulled out all the A/C for a total of 35 pounds savings. what about pulling the power steering? i've gone without it in other cars, but how is it in this car? worth it? i mainly want to do it to just clean up the engine bay and maybe free up a bit of power.

    anyone have experience with this?

Search and you should come up with a few posts.

A few guys just pulled the lines and the pump, filled the rack up with fluid and caped off the line fittings. Others have actually found a manual euro rack and put it in.

        so simple!

actually though, the engine is out now so it'll be super easy if i just remove it. i think i decided to just go through with it. i remember my uncles volvo had it removed and it wasnt bad to drive and he claimed it was noticeably more powerful on the freeway.

Probably not worth it... but who knows.

I removed the system from my Alfa and it sucked to park... and un-park. While it was moving it felt nice though.

I've got manual steering on my euro 325i. At first it was a pain in the ass, but you get used to it. I'm by no means "strong" either ahha. Feels weird driving power steering cars now, it's like you don't feel the road as much.

I think the right way to do this is to put the car back together with the PS system operable and try it both ways (remove the belt for a pseudo delete). If you are happy driving the car w/no assist, remove the pump. To keep fulid in the reservior and provide expansion room for the fluid plumbing the rack input line to the reservoir makes more sense to me than simply capping the lines. The reservior and hoses weigh practically nothing.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
