Hissing sound when the A/C is on?

I just stole Jenny's 325iX for a run to Subway. When I started the car I noticed a strange 'hissing' sound coming from what sounded like under the dash on the passenger footwell area. I noticed she had her A/C on (though it barely blows cold), and when I turned it off the hissing sound went away. I turned it back on, and the sound came back. I sure hope there's not a leak in the interior from the A/C system. Any thoughts?

yup that was pressure passing through the expansion valve...probably ok. Normally it isn't that loud, and you cannot hear it with the glovebox in place.

i had that in my e46... It was leaking inside the dash, therefore I sold the car.

That'll happen sometimes when the refrigerant is low. I'd have the system recharged.

Yeah you can get the recharge kit from a auto parts store so much cheaper then getting it recharged at a shop. That is probably why the AC sucks.
