My car just died this morning !!!!

Last few days, when i start it, it has been sounding like the battery was on its way out. Then this morning i drove home, turned it off, and tried to start again. I heard a small *pop* and now it wont even turn over, i turn the key and there is just *silence*. It can't be the battery because the stereo and lights work just fine, could it be the coil ? distributor ? starter motor ? or something as simple as a fuse ? how can i diagnose the problem ?

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers,
    Mitch

Is there a way to find out ? :? without paying an auto-electrician to look at it

Electricity isnt really my strong point, however to recieve better help you might want to add the e30 that you drive, year, etc....

You might want to call up a local auto-electrician and ask for suggestions over the phone if you really are in such a rush.

Take a socket wrench and bang on the started a few times - some sharp hrad thumps...see if it is sticking...sounds like the starter might be on it's way out...sometimes they stick(I drove my e21 around like that for about a year, having to rap on the starter each time befor starting - then one day it fixed it's self!)

            PS - AWESOME SIG...

But soon as i turn it off it doesn't start again. It's at the mechanics now he thinks its just a solanoid in the starter motor, because when u turn the key it makes a ping noise. So hopefully ill have her back this afternoon.

                  Cheers,

Thanks for the help, im off to work :x
