Usually when a head gasket goes you will have continous white smoke/steam come out your exhaust.

This will occur at all times, engine hot/cold.

Coolant leaks into the combustion chamber, creates steam and exits out the exhaust. Assuming the leak is continous, this will create steam at all times.

Check your coolant level, check the color.

    -Does it appear low?
-Does it look like a choclate shake?

If it looks like a choclate shake it means you have oil in your coolant. Not fun!

The head gasket could be blown just enough to leak coolant into the combustion chamber(s). Just because you don't have oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil doesn't mean you don't have a blown head gasket.

I would check the level. If it's low, fill it up and check it in a day or two after you've driven.

All cars smoke white when they are cold!! This is water vapor condensing because the motor isn't hot enough to fully evaporate it.

        Keep it slideways!!

yah its mostly when its cold, but what does it mean when u take off the oil cap when its running and the car wants to die.

By removing the oilcap you are essentially creating a huge vacuum leak. Keep a CLOSE eye on this issue and try not to drive it IF it is a headgasket. This could lead to other problems , such as a warped head, and this =much more money.

There is a noticably different appearance of vaporized coolant and normal condensation. once you've seen vaporized coolant coming from the exhaust as a result of a blown head gasket you'll never mistake one for the other. If you aren't sure whether this is coolant or condensation, have an experienced tech take a look. They'll know instantly which it is.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

You would be able to tell the smell is different and sweet. Below is an example of the 'milk shake' After the car has warmed up it will look like this, if you pull the oil cap and see this, stop driving the car immediately.

Take a whiff of your exhaust and get back to us.

Yes: and the reason the water is there in the first place is that it is a hydrocarbon combustion reaction byproduct. In other words, it's ALWAYS there, cold or hot. It's also the cause of exhaust systems rusting from the inside out rather than the reverse.

Metric Mechanic talks of a crack that happens in the lifter valley between cylinders #4 and #5, allowing coolant into the oil.

I fear that same crack in my sweeties head. Pressure testing happens today.
