    Timing Question

The crankshaft does the same thing each rotation, correct? It doesn't make the pistons go up and down differently on rotation 1 and rotation 2, right?

    Correct.

    Take a look at these:

It's the reason you can put the pedal to the metal and go from 0 to 60 in seconds. But to the uninitiated, an engine can look like a jumble of metal and wires.

The types of engines you'll learn about in this section include diesel, rotary, HEMI, stirling and quasiturbine, to name a few. You'll also see photos and animated images of the technologies we explore.

every 360 rotation of the crank shaft each piston goes up and down..... but the cam shaft turns half as fast

Phew! Just making sure! I was cleaning stuff and moving the crank around, and I miscounted the two rotations. I was just hoping I didn't mess things up!

The crank spins twice for each completion of the firing order, tha cam spins half as fast, so it spins once per firing order. This is the same for all 4 stroke engines, regardless of the number of cylinders.

DOHC is set up the same way, the crank spins twice and each cam will spin once.
Can I have some proof to back up your case? Or must you call people names to prove your point? I see no evidence.

Same for DOHC. The cams turn at half speed.
