If you are going to swap diffs, put a big case diff in from a 6 cylinder e30.

    Small case diffs are weak.

A bigger diff is gonna make that m42 feel like a slug.

Bigger diffs are heavier, with heavier internal components, aka more driveline loss.

Doubtful on the drivetrain loss, both diffs are still taking a 90-degree angle to get the power to the wheels.

Big case, low ratio diffs definately make em feel slower. I had to rock a 3.25LS in mine for about a month one time.

My dad asked, "what the hell did you do to this thing" when we took my stock 4.10 apart (after blowing the fucker up).

A bigger diff has heavier internal components, meaning more rotational mass, therefore meaning more driveline loss.

Yes it will fit, no its not the correct ratio.

You want a 4.10:1 LSD and nothing else.

Thats off by alot. 318i's are slow enough as is. No need to change the gearing and make it even slower.

4.10LSD all the way. Mine has an E30 M3 diff, I'd definitely recommend it for a one-eight.

I would have to say no, just because you asked. Tearing apart a LSD diff is not something you shoudl do unless you know what you are doing.
