    bought a 325i(s)!

well, just bought the car for a grand, which i thought was somewhat of a fair deal, even with 200,000 miles on it
    And.
    it's got problems.

    1) The transmission seems to be grinding randomly. How much will it cost to work on it? it seems to grind when coming out of 2nd gear, and sometimes in other gears.
    2) the car started earlier, but isn't anymore. I suspect it might be because my friend started with it already in 1st gear :T
So now every time we try to start the car, the whole car shuts down and we have to reset it by reconnecting the battery. It won't turn over at all, so we had to pop start it. fun stuff.
someone told me that it might be a relay, but i'm not exactly sure which one. is it one of the ones in the fuse box?

anyway...those are the two main problems.
    everything else is great.
oh wait, the clutch seems to be almost done too.

your help would be much appreciated. i'm not very car savvy.

    but she's beautiful
    look:

the guy at the bmw shop next door said that it's probably the starter and that it would cost $460 to replace it. It seems a bit expensive for the job, but they seem like a really high end shop. is it worth it?

do it yourself......or did you expect to buy a car in perfect conditions for $1000. I would upon getting/picking up the car, checked oil, coolant and p/s, shaking and noises while driving. starter $100-150max at local advance auto.

you say the car runs good when on? then forget about tuneup for a sec and check tranny oil and/or replace it. VERY easy if you need the tool pm me and i'll tell you how to make it yourself with a screw and 3nuts. check how much metal shavings on the magnetic plug, if its something outragious you might be looking at a tranny swap/rebuild
    No more e30s for me.

alright from what i read your first problem could be your clutch is really bad, or it could mean your tranny is shot to hell (rare)
your second problem may be your starter i had a similar problem last summer and it turned out to be my starter, i bought a used one on here for about 40 bucks and changed it out. if you do your starter, you could do your clutch at the same time but it is not required, but if you decide to do your clutch definitely give the starter a check
