For generalities the kit start at $5500USD to $6500USD, and will depend largely on the donor engine and transmission chosen.
I am not mechanically inclined what so ever, so what costs am I looking at to get someone else besides me to do the installation.
Figure about $2-3000 depending on who you ask, and how familiar with engine transplants and shop rates. We usually charge out about $3000, which also includes Dyno tuning.
SR20DET (stock) 205hp to 280hp
Modified SR20DET, with minor modifications and tuning 350-450hp

im not looking for an outragious ammount of power. i just wannt a light nible 318 with a bit more bite to pull itself out of corners and down strait roads.
im fairly sure me and 3 of my friends (2 of which have much turbo experience) could wip something home-made up without toooo much trouble. one of those guys has turboed 2 of his cars (going on 3), and one of the others just turboed his car for just under $1000 i belive. (and it runs great)
i understand that an m50 would be a much better choice for the extra power, although it weighs much more than the m42.
i think it would be a very fun project.98 M3/4/5

whats the stock hp of the m42? 140? soo im guessing a well set-up well tuned m42 turbo could easily make 220-260 crank hp. assumeing that 1psi = 10hp98 M3/4/5

oook..didn't read all this thread..so forgive me. The next engine I get will have a CR of 10.4:1, and I will be running about 10 psi. I'm in no way worried abotu the engine, b/c it is alllll in the tuning. I'tll be Hondata tuned running 550cc injectors. If you tune the motor right and don't go freakin nuts on the boost, it'll run great. Please keep in mind that Honda's are notorious for weak ring lands too. :D

6psi is waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles boost. anything can take that... well almost anything.
10psi is really not THAT much boost. but i assume it can be stressfull on a motor like the m42 considering the hemispherical head (it does have that right) and the high CR.
either way, if i had a 10psi m42, i wouldnt be too conserned.98 M3/4/5

8lbs on a B18B? Hmmmm, pushing it. That's like a Jackson Racing with a big pulley..... stressing a little bit. They don't have knock sensors. so get something wrong.....
I know you gots a B25, but I thought you were thinking about this as a project. That project would probably be a bust at 10psi.
Why not get a cheap M10, and boost it as much as you can. That'd be a stupid fast toy.
