for while i could hear a lot of squealing coming from my belts, im assuming it was the alternator belt cause i put some wd-40 on it and it went away temporarily. over the weekend i noticed some of the lights were flickering on and off on the instrument panel, the battery light, e-brake light and antilock brake light would flicker, at higher speeds them seemed to stay off. Today i went to go start my car and it wouldnt, so i got it jumped and it started but nothing electrical worked, no radio, windows took about 5 minutes to go down, no tach, speedo, gas gague, odometer, it just didnt work, so i checked the alternator belt to see if it was loose or something but its not, would you assume that a new alternator is all i need?
no electrical in car

Jump the car and see what the output of the alternator is. Should be something like 13-14 volts at least. You can also bring it into the parts store and have them test it. A lot of places have alt testing.:: PNW Crew ::

It really sounds like your alternator is producing enough power to keep the battery charged. And now the battery is low enough that the electricals are flaky.
The cause could be a bad alternator, slipping belt,or even a bad battery. Having the battery and alternator tested should tell where the problem(s) is.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
