Cracked my thermostat manifold thingie, yay!

Turns out if you use the wrong O-ring on your thermostat housing, and then overtighten it thinking that everything will be fine...well your thermostat housing cracks. Not the easy to replace part.

So is there an easy way to take that out? It will not clear the fuel injector rail right now. Is there any way to shift the injector rail w/o removing the intake?

Am I the first person to have made this particular gaffe?

I cannot particularly give good advice on this topic but I must say that its a shabby predicament. My condolences to your housing and its immediate family.

Seems to me the housing will clear the rail, but not the injector harness. The harness pops off, 1 injector at a time.

If not, it isn't that hard to pull the injectors/fuel rail/harness. Four 10mm bolts are all that hold it in, not counting fuel lines.

Take the 2 10mm bolts that hold the complete injector rail+harness to the manifold out and pop the injectors out of their holes in the manifold. Takes half a minute to do- I believe that's the easiest way.

if its original since 16 years, its not always the easiest thing. but yeah, do as adam described.

im looking back through pictures where i documented this. i had to replace mine because it was leaking like a sob where i had tried to thread to NPT with a pipe i had cut grooves into... dont try this ever and just buy the real tool.
i think you would just have to remove the sensors and sender in order for it to clear. another possibility is to losen the nut, and apply another nut and lock them down and get lucky enough to drive the mount stud out of the head and you wont have to remove anything. space to do this is a limiting factor.

          sorry to hear this

another piece of advice, take the hood off.

The new housing is on the way from Bavarian Auto Recycling, I will attempt to put it on when they get here. Thank you for the advice!
