    Gas tank leak

well....i was driving on the freeway and long story short i ran over something metallic and it poked a hole in my fuel tank. i noticed it when i filled up, gas starting pissing out the side of my car so i drove it to the nearest place that might have something (harbor freight) and jacked thee car up. cleaned the hole with a wire brush, sprayed some carb cleaner on it and then patched the hole with the J-B weld stik putty in a tube (the kneadable one). It holds fine now, and they say it cures in gasoline, and is petro/chemical/water resistant....im just wondering...how long do you think this will last before it disolves/breaks/cracks/ pretty much fails? BTW i have an 89 with a 14 gallon steel tank.

is it hard to pull the gas tank out? can it be repaired?

I repaired the gas tank in my 93 dodge spirit w/ quiksteel (similiar to what you're talking about) and it was good for the year I had it.

My dad fixed a gas tank leak with JB weld on a 78 kawasaki street/trail bike. And it has not leaked yet. The fix was done about 7 years ago.

It is not hard to remove the tank. How big is the hole? I would just keep the stuff on there for now. Let me know if you need help with how to remove the tank if you decide to do it. I have done it before and I have pics.

I slathered JB Weld on a buddies gas tank in his Land Cruiser about 10 years ago. Since the driver sits on the tank (yes, it's inside the vehicle) I told him he'd know when the tank had to be replaced.

Hasn't leaked yet. However, the tank was dry when I did it.
