    I've Always Been Curious

When my car is idling, it makes a "whrrrrrrrr" sound, like someone is whistling. This would be the water pump, right? Perhaps something vibrating at a specific frequency?
Me: "I can't wait to redline my car!"
Mark: "Didn't you just break a rocker arm?"
Me: "Yeah, I don't think I've learned my lesson."
    Mark: "You never will."

Could be the PS pump. When you take off the cap of the PS res, the fluid in there is swirling around like a mini cyclone.

My alternator was making a spaceship sound, kind of a "whirr"

Just sort of the front of the engine. It's not like I'm totally concerned about it, I was merely curious as to what makes that sound. Like I said, I thought it would be one of my pullies spinning at a frequency to allow the metal to make a particular sound.

It's not my PS pump--it's almost dead. I guess it could be the alternator since it has all those fan things on the front.

look at your belts, my car made a similar noise, i replaced the belts cause they were cracked and old, and the sound disappeared.

but if you arent that concerned about it then i wouldnt worry about it.
                til the noise gets louder.
