    ATTN: 153 to 173 Swappers...help?

    Hi.

So I understand that the way to get the ECU to flash codes after a 173 swap is to floor the gas pedal 5 times, rythmically.

I have had a CE light a few times, generally after a few miles of freeway time then restarting. Lots of freeway is usually no issue, but 10 to 15 miles, it lights.

So, I have tried the whole "5 complete pumps" slow, fast, meduim, whatever.

    No flashie.

Help a brother out, would ya? Am I having an issue with the TPS or something?

    Luke

turn the ignition key to the On position (but dont start it), then: fully depress the accelerator pedal, then fully release it. Repeat the depress, release cycle 5 times fairly quickly, but not too fast. It should be completed in a few seconds. What you are doing here is clicking the wide open throttle switch then the idle switch each 5 times. This signals the Motronic unit to send the fault codes by flashing the Check Engine light. You should see the light flash once then it will start flashing the 4 digit codes. If there are no faults, you should see the 1444 code (and 2444 if you have a 12 cylinder). The codes appear as a series of flashes for each digit. The flashes indicating one digit are about 1 second apart, the next digit appears after a couple second interval. The rest of the fault codes appear in Table 1 below.

I have done exactly that about 10 times...no flashie...maybe bad TPS?

So damn snarly it is hard to tell, but the tach does not bounce.

Do you know what wires are TPS on the ECU?

What spec should I meter for?

            Thanks for the input!

The TPS is just a switch, so just check continuity.

              PIN 1 = Brown/Blue = Throttle Closed
              PIN 2 = Brown = GND
              PIN 3 = Brown/Black = Wide Open Throttle

Thats at the TPS itself, if you want ECU pins then its

              PIN 52 = Throttle Closed
              PIN 53 = WOT

something tells me my TPS is not working properly.

Only continuity, huh? Oh yeah, it is the E36 that uses a rheostat.

                Duh.

I will test with my meter soon.

                Thanks!
