    running without PS fluid?

Whats up guys. I've been driving without power steering for about 5 months now, and it's grown on me. I just purchased a 95 m3 rack which I'm gonna install later this week. It's got a tighter Lock-to-Lock ratio, which I know will make it harder to turn. I figure the rack and pinion is essentially a mechanical device, so it's safe to run it without fluid right? (and the pump's belt disconnected)
Thanks, just wanted to make sure before I fuck it up.

It still needs the lubrication of the fluid.

You should at the least, fill the rack up and cap it off to keep fluid in it.

A slighlt better approach would be to plumb both lines from the rack up to the reservoir. That allows room for fluid expansion as the rack heats up.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

yup yup. Just remove the PS pump from the system.
