Because six cylinders are way better than four.

The s14 engine only has 200hp and not sure of the torque, but it is not that high. It really is not worth putting the s14 in any car unless it is an m3 and you are keeping it stock. For the same amount, give or take, you could get an s50 engine and that makes 240 HP.

ah, i would have assumed that the s50 or another higher end engine would cost more, but i guess they are more available? thanks for the info (still think s14 looks sexy)

BMW only sent over about 5,000 e30 m3s. The s14 is an individual throttle body, high strung, race-ready engine. Buzzy and not the most reliable. Also, not the most powerful.

BMW built tens of thousands of e36 m3s with the s50/s52. Unlike Europe, we just got beefed up m50s with 240hp, not itb 280hp engines.

S14s cost a lot to buy because they are rare. They are not popular to swap because they are expensive to maintain and they don't make much power.

S50/2s are not so expensive because there were many more produced and they ain't all that special. They are more desirable to swap because they are newer, more reliable and more powerful.

The diesel m21 did come to the US, but only in the 524td, not the 324td that they got in Europe.

-m40's are not etas, they're 4-bangers, which replaced the older m10. (we only got the m42 and m44, thank God. m40's suck). Etas are still m20's.
