    Cabby Question

I've been thinking about getting a Cabby for a summer fun car, but wanted to know what the common issues are with them / I should look for. Also is the top a bitch to keep leak free.

i hear that the top is one of the problems.

also the third brake light gaskets might be bad and that will cause another leak.

but if you replace the gaskets the problems will go away.

      Yes they are!!

The rear brake light issue, I'm thinking of replacing my trunk lid with a regular non cab lid, presto no leak!

My cab's top was cut in a couple of places and thanks to duct tape there where no leaks. I replaced the entire top with one from the scrappy and it's fine.

For the most part the rest it's an e30, fun to drive, sweet as can be.

Negatives - My Brit friend at work says its a hair-stylist's car!, I've heard chick car etc. It's not the most masculine car right now, and my not so loud ANSA exhaust is not helping.

Bigger rims, lowered, eye lids, louder exhaust and that should shape things right up!

Just buy a Miata if you want to drive something more feminine.

Negatives: More noise, tops can go bad and even if you replace seals and top there is still leaking some where. The interior usually gets beat up more from sun and being open.

I have never heard of the 3rd brake light gasket causing leaks. A lot of the time its the antenna grommet.

I love my vert. I would like a coupe/sedan for the winter but other than that I wouldn't trade my vert for anything else of the e30 world (minus M3 and touring). Get one!

I guess all these negatives come with the territory HOWEVER,
IF you live by the beach theres no reason to not have the top down every single day when its hot unless its raining.
Rollin with the top down is something i do because i can .

Yes, it apparently takes a magician to adjust the top so it's leak free, but it is possible to do so.

Don't get a power top car -- that's another layer of complexity you don't need (from the man who owns one).

Other than that they're just like any other E30.

                  cabrios

Cabrio are great. I think its the easiest to mod, out of the e30's. The top is for a magician to keep it from leaking.

                  - Chick car? not a chance, but it does look like a sissy's car if you dont drop it, get better wheels, and other slim style styling.

Don't get power tops, they go bad in a heartbeat.

Rear shock mounts are super easy to do.

Top can leak with old seals, buy the top seal complete set, and have someone who knows what they're doing install it all. It's a costly set, but it will cover everything you didn't think of.

Rear speakers are the same as front speakers, except the rears have a slightly shallow clearance. (You can't get super deep speakers)

There are TWO walls between teh cabin and the trunk. This isn't really a big deal, it helps with structural integrity mainly, and only hurts the thump of a subwoofer if you decide to put one in.

                      .
I have been looking for a while. Who sells a complete seal kit for our cars? I need the left and right front seals on the top bad, both are cut and I get water on my thigh now.

                      Thanks

yea, from bmw its like 300 for the whole set all 5 pieces. anyone know where else they can get it cheaper than that. I think its 100ish for the front, and 45 for the two sides and 60 for the two in teh back.
