    Door Catch Point

On my 86 325es the driver side door won't seem to "catch" halfway into its swing. Where is the mechanism that does this and where can I get the parts to fix it?

Also, I took the car in to get the a/c replaced and the guy wants 1500 to get a new compressor, drier and expansion valve. This seemed pretty steep to me... Is he ripping me off or should I expect to pay this much wherever I go?

dear god, 1500$. Even if it was true and it did cost that much to buy, I'd ditch the a/c and call it a weight savings mod. 1500 goes a long way towards a motor, paint, bling wheels, seat upholestry. Pick your project, a/c is waaay down the list.

That's what I thought. Just to clarify, that's with labor, but it still seemed extremely expensive to me. Thanks for verifying.

What about the door catch point?

You can buy the mechanism here, and it's located near the door hinge. If I remember correctly, you're going to have to remove the door panel and the plastic insulation. Knock the 'guide pin' (that the mechanism pivots on) out using a hammer. Then, unbolt the two bolts holding it to the door, and slide the old mechanism through one of the holes in the door. Installation is reverse of removal.
