    Windshield wiper linkage

The ball joint that connects the motor's drive rod to the drivers' side wiper arm has loosened up and now won't stay put... it left me wiperless on my drive home today in the pouring rain, and I've coated the windshield heavily w/Rain-X till I find a permanent solution. What's an easy fix? Should I replace the arm?

I have a 325i parts car in the driveway, but I don't want to pull the wiper motor assy out unless it's a better fix, seeing as on a 318 there's quite a bit of shit on the firewall in front of that cover.

"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."

this happened to me a little while ago. just remove the driver side black cowl piece and the blower motor cover.
pop off that arm off ball end. you can reach though the cowl for the wiper side. and then the heater cover for the motor side. then slide out the arm though the blower motor opening.

the piece should only be around $10's at the dealer. you can;t reuse them, becuase the plastic cup almost alwasy breaks when you remove them....and make sure you put some more lubricate (brake slider lube.)

if u need more info pm me

Same friggin' thing happened to me. For the past couple weeks, I've just been resetting the arm to make sure it's in place, before I go out when the weather doesn't look promising - takes all of 2 minutes.
The arm Spaz mentioned is only like $5-6 online. I wasn't sure if that's all that would fix it.
      Thanks for the reassuring info.

would this 5-10 dollar piece be considered the wiper transmission rod?

Friend of mine has a cab and the wipers are having issues - he went to a dealer and they quoted him $500+ to fix what they said was the "wiper motor transmission rod."

Just had the same drive rod come off the wiper arm and found this thread. Yay search! Thanks for the info Spaz.

And to add to this, driving one way home in a downpour with no wipers, at night, is fucking scary!
