    starter problem ?

    Hi all,

My car intermitently fail to start after it warmed up. crank is nothing as the car is in D pos. But with the screwdriver trick ive been able to start the engine back. Ive heard someone mentioned bout putting a "relay" from the starter to the sollenoid to "help" starting the car. what kinna relay?? any diagram ?? reference would help... thanks

The engine is not supposed to crank while in any drive gear. It should only start in park, and neutral.

My car does the same thing as yours I think. It will randomly not start [not even crank].

Could this be a bad ground on the starter?

Could be a dead spot in the starter. My dad's old Toyota p/u use to randomly not engage the starter when you turned the key. We just turned the key on and off until it did engage. Never did figure out what was wrong with it, or should I say I totalled it before I had a chance to figure it out.

I had the same problem a while ago. make sure your wires to your starter are on tight.
