maplight mirror wiring

Does anyone know if the 3 position switch from the old 7 series cars cna be fitted in place of the 2 position on the maplight mirror? I would like them to come on when i open the door, but also be able to turn them on at anytime. I couldnt wire the 2 position switch like this, i dont think

You would have to rig something like that, then run another wire up the a,b,or c pillar to turn the light on when you open the door. Way too much work IMO
