Did I just blow my engine?

well, I replaced the fuel line and started it up
    started up fine.
Took the throttle body through it's motions with my hand.
and then opened it to full throttle for a split second (tapped it)
well, the throttle cable STUCK on return spring so the throttle wouldnt return to close and the engine bounced off the rev limiter two or 3 times until I was able to free the cable from the throttle spring.
now it's stumbling on the idle, the check engine light is on and flashing (o2 sensor code) and the car almost sounds like its knocking...

I swear to god... if I just lost compression on one of my pistons from detonation... Im gonna be pissed

ok, its probably not rod knock, because it goes away with more revs.
its just idling poorly and the CE light is flashing twice (o2 sensor)

there is a chance the revving knocked some gunk out of the engine and fooled the O2 sensor.

Just take it for a drive and see. I have bounced my 88 325is off the revlimiter while sitting at least 4 times in a row and nothing has ever happened.

        its sputtering at idle
Check engine light is on. blinks twice (o2 sensor too rich or too lean)
cant get it reset with the 'turn key to on 3 times' either.
I may have to borrow an FCX R5 tool to reset it

Check for a broken rocker arm.

how hard is it for one person to take the valve cover off to check it?

              For real?

              It's a couple nuts/bolts. I guess on a 325i, you'd have to remove the ICV bracket too.

                make that 3

my rocker arm broke and the idle acted like an injured lamb, stumbling about.

pretty easy. wrench/rachet or whatever. About 10 nuts on the valve cover and 2 screws that holds the intake manifold I think.
Sure be pretty easy to see, if you snapped one.

Bill, just the manifold bracket, unless the old skool ICV are over the valve cover.

My repair manual estimates it will take 3 blondes 1hr to remove the valve cover.

It estimates it will take 1 chapel and a dimwitted friend 13hrs to remove the valve cover.

I usually use a prybar to take off the valve cover, I rest it on the bentley manual for leverage.

Swing wild, brake later, don't apologize.

OK, normally his responses were just mean but that might have been defined as funny.

                          HAHA, nice sarcasm...
Its a simple job, just make sure you don't over torque the nuts back on... they are like 50-60 in-lb, so around 5ft lbs, which isn't much!

You may have spun a rod bearing... was the car cold? when I spun 2 rod bearings in my S14 it only made a little knocking at idle and a little at 3k rpm while driving, the rest of the time it was silent...

I just took a look at the procedure for removing the valve cover. shouldn't take too long to inspect

here is a photo of how the throttle valve stuck open:

the adjustment cap got caught on the tip of the return spring...
