Brake Pedal Adjustment?

I tried to get ride of some brake pedal free play today, but for the life of me a couldnt loosen the adjustment nut. Does anyone know if I was correct in loosening the nut clockwise while facing the firewall?

If anyone has any tips or suggestions Id appreciate it since Im on the verge of stripping the nut.:(

Did you remove the brake rod from the pedal. It won't turn unless you do.
