    Electrical Problems!! Engine wont start!!

    I tried jumping the auxiliary fan by running a wire from the battery to the fan a few minutes ago and accidentally dropped the wire I was using to jump the fan down onto the frame. There was quite a spark and the engine died and then I couldnt start the engine back up.

    All the fuses are intact, but a two of the relays in the fuse box were warm.
    The car will try to start and everything will turn on, but the engine wont fire.

    What could I have done? Needless to say I feel like an idiot and Im quite worried I could have done something costly like damaging the ecu.

    Your help is greatly appreciated!!

    just wanted to add that the fuseable link in the trunk is intact and also that the engine died immediately after I dropped the jumper wire on the frame which would rule out fuel pump problems and what not.

      Replaced the main relay and it still wont fire.

      Any thoughts or suggestions??????

        checked for shorted fuse to fuel pump

          maybe try another ECU.
          NEED SOME VINYL STICKERS???

            well I tried another ecu and that did not solve the problem. I used the bentley manual to do the different tests on the motronic system and discovered there is no voltage to the control unit. Does this mean im getting no voltage to the ecu? Ive checked all the fuses and the fuseable link and everything checks out. What else could it be?

              Is there power to the main relay socket? And is the control signal present when you turn on the key? Do power to the DME suggests that the main relay is the place to start.
              The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

                thanks for the help but the i figured out the problem. It actually was the fuseable link in the trunk. Wow do i feel stupid after all of the trouble i went through. oh well you live you learn
