I'd say lurk around the boards and get to know e30's before you even think about an engine swap. From what it sounds like you are no where near mechanically inclined to complete the swap yourself which means it's gonna cost you $$$$$.
Welcome aboard.
yeah definatly, thanks, what kills me is i had the head rebuilt along with some other crap done to my car like 5000 or so miles ago and it cost me $5000!!!! what a fuckin rip right?!! sorry for all the cussing
true but converting to 5 speed just sounds like to much work.. no?
The conversion is too much work but you want to replace/rebuild/turbo an engine?
lol i'm not sure. it seems like it would be a lot of work with a new pedal and a new tranny and flywheel and all those other goodies that come on a 5 speed. not to mention the price for a good tranny. i'm definatly going to look into it though. bolth. the tranny and turbo
yeah, no shit, right! it didn't help that I needed the car back ASAP too. no time to even shop. but oh well it's in the past. all i can do is move on from there. in the past i never messed with a car's mechanics. didn't have anyone to teach me. that's why i'm trying to learn myself now. doing as much studying as possible. but for the time being i definatly will have to pay people to work on my car for things out of my league. i'm not ashamed of my temp incompetence. ;p
Next time ur at a stop, put the car in "N" and rev your engine to 6000rpm and quickly shift into "D"

Work on getting rid of that slush box first, THEN and only then worry about what motor to swap in.

I would stick to a non-vanos M50.
That's a matter of opinion.

Direct swap? Saul, you smokin' shit again?!? :P
I said non-vanos M50, because he doenst really konw much about swapping engines of this matter(and vanos would be a lilttle jump for him). Personally i love vanos M50's. And brysons M50 swap is pracitcly a "bolt on" if you think about it. Especially compared to your M52 swap(PITA OBDII to OBDI). But that doesnt mean the M52 is not a kick ass engine :)(oh yeah u have to show it to me sometime). I was with bryson today, and all you need to do is order some additional parts, make some custom mounts (tranny), and use M10 motor mounts, (swap AC and accessories, and whatnot), its just alot easier than OBDII. Bryson cmon vouch for me now man, where the hell are you? :)
it's really easy, jason.. c'mon, it's seriously a weekend job
...I just take a long time to get parts
you florida kids are idiots with your fucking automatics. i can't believe that you thought converting to another engine would be easier than swapping a tranny. did you plan on using your automatic after swapping the fucking engine? swapping a crank is not as easy as you think it is.
to summarize: florida sucks

by the way Bryson i swung by your shop to show you my new car ;)
OK well i see a lot of people are busting on me. so to clear things up. first off i'm shooting for idea's here to see "posibilities". and no i don't plan on keeping an auto if i did get an engine swap done for me. second, i don't know much about engines. are you going to sue me? not likely.. well maybe if i worked on your car.. heh. last off, dissin florida. i moved here from connecticut 2 years back, from where i lived my whole life up until then. so florida has nothing to do with anything. anyways.. i bought the car in CT for a price you wish you bought it for and the fact that it is an automatic makes it more likely that the car wasn't beaten on. expecialy where i got it from... no hard feelings guys, i just don't think it's right to make an opionion on someone from a couple of 3 sentence posts. and yeah, i am a newbie to fixing (hooking) up cars, let alone, BMWs.

Well thats how it goes. My recommended idea: read every article you can. When you're done with that, you'll have enough info about E30's to make an educated post so we wont laugh at you.
