m20 starter hook up on 318is

I have an m20 flywheel now on my 318is and I need to hook up the m20 starter. It looks like the wiring is completely different. Any ideas on how this is done?

Im not sure... I just changed the pinion gears over. Its really not that hard.

alright, where the big wire goes should be pretty obvious, of the 2 smaller wires one is to start the car and one is for the jumper relay. one wire is just a wire with its own tight insulation on it. the other wire is smaller but has loose insulation around it. you should be able to tell by looking/feeling. The the plain wire goes to the other post of the starter. the wire with the extra insulation needs to be grounded. I used the post the engine wiring harness mounts on, its right there. i think i had to drill out the wires connector slightly.

Thats the way to do it .

Just swap the m20 starter pinion into your M42 starter .

Or you can take a torch to heat up and remove the ring gear from the flywheels and swap them over .
