    Supercharging an E30 M20/B25 or M20/B27

There have been several topics on turbo charging the e30. However, you rarely see anyone talking about supercharging one. Why? Seems like it would require less customizing (since the existing intake could be used as well as exhaust manifold), with similar gains, yet produce a more consistent power band. Also seems like compression ratio could be a bit higher since they produce less heat if intercooled.

Later model BMW's are regularly supercharged. Seems like you could find a small supercharger, like from an old MR2, and fabricate a bracket and crank pully and you're almost there. I don't want to here about electric superchargers. However, if anyone has any info on technical specs for a supercharged e30, I'd love to hear about it.

A super charger seem cheaper but the price to pick up a roots charger to start with is very expesive, unless you find one in a junkyard then you need to find one that will work on a 2.5 engine. I remember a whilke back that a supercharger from a certin older for dowuld be perfect for these engines. I'd love to do this if i could find one for under $500

Do a on this. I know it has been touched on at least a few times, because I remember people starting off the same way you did with "There's so much on turbo's, but..."

          :D

I did search but found nothing useful. The responses in this are already much more relevant in terms of tech info.

Also, all supercharger kits i've seen for m20 requires you to remove the AC, wich i didnt had to with my turbo setup =)

Check out the Eaton M-112 unit. Its the same they use in some jaguars, and the mustang cobra. You can find rebuilt units for 600, used ones for 200-300, and sometimes new on ebay for 400-500.

Despite the flak these units get, you CANNOT beat their value. They are extremely reliable and get the job done. You would be better served by a whipple or Autorotor twin-screw setup (usually will run you $1500 for the blower).

If you have a custom-made crank-pully, you shouldn't have to worry about AC delete.

Not sure I'll be able to make it. I've set aside the next 2 weekends to finish the engine. The stroker goes in this weekend (hopefully), and the roll bar the following week unless I run into problems with the engine transplant. Once these are in, I'll begin to search for supercharger components. I found that the Buick Riviera was made with a 2.5l engine and a roots type supercharger and produced in the area of 250hp. The displacement was much higher than the stroker but I think it will work. If it does, my car would have an awesome powerband for the track - although my car classification would be moved up a bit.

The Riviera used a roots blown 3.8l ohv V6, which was the exact same motor used in the pontiac grand prix GTP, bonneville SSEI, buick park avenue ultra, regal GS, and oldsmobile eighty eight ls. GM whored that motor out to every car they could, so they're easily available. ;)

Not a positive displacement blower, but it should do the job :D

what year of those GM cars have the superchargers? I just cheked my favorite junkyard's inventroy and they listed a couple of each of those cars in stock, maybe I'll have to go make a run to see if i can find a supercharger or two if Dan wants one.
