    Position Sensors...Advice needed

So I've done some recent work on my '85 euro. For some reason, the reference mark sensor has been mounted to the passenger side of the block and is reading off of the crank pulley. This is in addition to the timing sensor located where it's supposed to be(driver's side, near the alternator). After I had re-assembled the engine, it started fine after some tweaks to the timing.(the car has a vacuum advanced distributor)

Then today, it isn't starting. Turning over just fine, spark to the plugs, fuel to the rail. I was getting frustrated and then noticed that my reference sensor had apparently moved/slipped and the nub on the crank pulley had eaten away at the end of the sensor. Luckily(eyeroll) I have just recently towed my eta parts car to the junkyard, so I don't have an extra one laying around. So I started searching online for new ones/prices.

Here's the jist of my question, the sensor changes between '85 and '86 with dramatic price differences(possibly based on manufacturer), are those sensors interchangeable? I still have the one speed sensor that is attached to my bell housing as it should be. If they aren't interchangeable, does anyone know why or why not? I'm headed to the junker tomorrow to see what I can find, but I want to know how specific of a sensor I need.

Here's the page at pelican that lists the two sensors with the split in manufacture dates. http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/cata...pg3.htm#item16
