    Cylinder walls

Today we finally pulled the head off of my buddy's 'eta' (locked out of the garage since monday). When I inspected the cylinder walls there was quite a bit of scraping or something. I know that olders engines should show some wear, but my 86 with more miles on the clock still had all the factory cross-hatchings and none of the goldish looking spots which are in this one. The car had a bad head gasket and had possibly had a bit of over heating. Could this contribute to the marks on the cylinder walls or is it just a poorly maintained engine? How bad are these to the engine's performance?

i would say.... could be overheating, or normal wear (a picture would be great).... the only thing you can do is get a bore guage and measure out of round, taper, and overall diameter..... if its all good use a hone and clean up the surface.... it should be all good.....
also make sure to check the deck for flatness...... again picture would be fantastic

Yea i'll work on that picture, won't be able to get to the car till at least monday cause the guy went out of town. Of course the head is being dropped off at a machine shop tmw to be checked, acid bath, rebuilt since the head most likely was warped.
