    Door internals

Is it difficult to assemble the drivers door (2dr) from scratch?
I found a replacement (perfect body) in the yard but my components are in better condition.
I already took the donor's components out but the assembled version was already in hte middle of the process so im still weary to take my door appart.

The window and regulator aren't that hard on E30s. I've done them in lots of cars and the E30 is actually pretty simple. Can't say about the door latch/handle arrangement as I've not touched those.

man that was easy to take appart.

      1. roll window down, three 10mm bolts to the regulator, slide mechanicals to the front of car and lift out. dont forget to unplug motor.

      2. window guide rails has one bolt at bottom, each side - remove. with window lose, rotate glass forward and lift out upper opening.

      3. remove mirror, remove exterior sil strip, remove lower window guide rails, finally pull out window gasket.

      4. two philips bolts to the interior latch, remove that. same for exterior handle, gone. two 10mm nuts inside the door above lock - the handle assembly should fall out. to remove the lock, slide retainer forward and wiggle components loose. three philips bolts to the latch and another 10mm nut for the mechanicals and the unit comes easily out of the door. again, unplug the three wires leading to the group.

      5. door's wire plug to car's frame - squeeze side clips and wiggle wires free. cut zip ties in door and press out clips. feed wires through hole in door, done with electrical.

Last thing to do before removing door - pull pin to the door-stay arm.
There are a number of methods in which the doors mount. the latest models had two 10mm bolts, one from top, one from bottom - remove those and you can lift the door off the hinges.

door trim - its tricky but possible to remove in perfect form. first is the ring front and above the glass. start at the front. its all spring loaded so you pull up and roll the exterior lip out. as you approach the top of the A pillar, you need to start releasing the first clips on the inside to release pressure in order to continue across the top. there also is normally some foamy glue that takes time and pressure to release. work with it gently and it will give.

same procedure for the B pillar pannel - start at the bottom and pull the trim to the rear of the car and roll the back end out. work your way up. thats it.
