Sanp on makes a nice one which you can control the speed of the trigger )I forget the model # but I beleive it's rated at 350 ft/bs forward and reverse. Dewalt makes a nice one as well although you can barely control the speed.

In all honesty though you shouldn't use one to torque a bolt down to its torque spec with these guns anyways, you should just use them for removing stubborn bolts when an compressor and air tools are not around. Thats why they make such a great but expensive tool to have.

i wasnt planning on using it to torque to spec. i need it more for suspension parts that are a bitch to get off, and also for strut top nuts on e30's. b/c the nut on the strut inserts like to strip off, and using an impart makes that job 10X easier.

I bought that exact impact wrench when it went on sale for $39 or $49.

I've had it for 6 months now, I've used it to disassemble many BMWs with no problems though it is not as strong as my CH air impact gun.

Well, you won't just spin it without having it on a fastener, thats for sure.

SnapOn, IR, and Milwaukee (my personal favorite) all make very good quality units. I know the Milwaukee is a variable speed unit and think the others are also, which is a form of torque control. The el cheapos work okay, but may be lacking in power and probably won't last long. Not long ago someone at the track the guy parked next to found out that his new el cheapo wouldn't break the lugs loose, but my Milwaukee just laughed at them.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

No, it's the corded one. We won it at a golf tournament in a drawing.

As far as th Milw. you might as well but the Ridgid at Home Depot for less. It is the same tool.
As long as you aren't using it to reassemble, there shouldn't be any problem with full torque. Just make sure to engage the nut fully before pulling the trigger (she said).

The whole u joint "bullet" has me confused BTW. Were you using an extension? I use ujoints all the time with air tools, IE to take the guibo aprts, bell housing bolts..... I have never seen a socket fly off. Furthermore if you were using the big air gun, I def. wouldn't recomend a ujoint.

thanks for that... I must have picked that thing up at Sears about half a dozen times and talked myself out of buying it.
