    blower motor

i have a question regarding the two flaps that are on either side of the blower motor

    A.) what are they for
B.) are they supposed to open and close depending on the control setting for air, ie. A/C or heat?

They are opened or closed depending on if you want air from outside, or just recirculated air from the cabin

Yeah, IIRC it's a direct mechanical control, which explains the noise and resistance in the switch.
