    Window problem

On every other e30 I see there is an access cover on the door panel that you pop off and can manually put the window down. Mine doesn't have this cover...

Is there still a spot to manually drop the window?

No, the late model e30s use a different window regulator which does not have the spot to manually drop the window.
That is also why the doorpanel doesn't have the hole in it.

I'm replacing the door panels on my 89 with the ones from the 85 I had. The 85 ones are mint, so I'll have the cut-outs again on the 89. What's unusual is that the 89 plastic moisture barrier has slits cut in it at that exact spot. Even the moisture barrier was continued amongst years even after they changed mechanisms.

            I find that funny.

I believe it is an allen wrench, but it might be something out of the stock tool kit. Pull the cover off and look.
