    Buying in the Auction

Hi, as the title says I found an E30 318is with a broken sump and it looks like it hit some thing while on the run as it broke the front end of the sump, I’m planning to bid on it and would like to know how long the engine would survive with out oil circulation?

I've seen where people drained the oil out of a junk car to see how long it would last and it varyed car to car. 1-4min. But yet i drove a dodge dakota with 0 oil pressure for a little over a 100 miles and it only wiped the cam out?

Sounds scary to me. How much do you think you can get it for? Are you up to doing an engine swap? If you could get it for under $1000, you could get a motor for under $1000 and swap it and have a running car. However, if the car isn't in MINT condition, I would pass and look elsewhere.

You could start it and see what it sounded like. It doesn't matter if you don't know how long it actually ran. I'd say that if it was OK, they wouldn't be auctioning it. They would have just put a pan on it and went on down the road.
