    Dash Removal Myteries

I just finished removing my dashboard. Many thanks to "Chris' BMW Pages".

I've uncovered a couple mystery items. Hopefully you folks can help.

First is a little control box mounted under the passenger side of the dash, It was plugged in so it does something, I'm just curious. Any ideas?

I also found these two wires. Both were unplugged. Both originate near the heat control/glovebox area. Both are female plugs. I apologize for the quality. I couldn't get my camera to focus on them. Anyway, one is a three wire plug (black, green/red tracer, yellow/white tracer). The other plug is a single wire with a red cloth tape tag on it.

I appreciate any help you guys can offer, TIA,

That electric box is the cruise control computer I think.

I'm not sure about the wires, but the single wire might be for the glovebox switch that triggers the glovebox light?

No, the ABS computer is under the driver's knee bolster, sorta above the headlight switch. The glove box light switch is accounted for too.

Cruise control? hmmmm. Time to do some more reading.

        Thanks for trying though.

          Cruise control brain, yes.
I had one of those plugs hanging around doing nothing also. I think it's a "bonus plug" for something not every car is equipped with.
I was surprised that the dash isn't that bad to deal with, except for the totally idiotic running of the wiring harness on the driver's side.

Yeah, the wiring will be a PITA during re-assembly. They wove 3 or 4 harnesses between the two left-side A/C ducts. I had to pop them apart to get it out. I'm cleaning all the dust and dirt while I'm under there. Then I'm going to change all the bulbs on the cluster and check the motherboard batteries. I got a great replacement dash from Terry Sayther's up in Austin. $100.

            Pleased so far.
