    Not holding fuel pressure

    so here's the issue.

    when i start my car from a cold engine, it takes about 10 cranks before the engine turns over. Once the car has been driven and warmed up, the car cranks over the first time when starting.

    what causes a fuel pump to be lazy when cold? not retaining the pressure in the hoses?

    fyi-theres new plugs in there.

    dude my car did the same thing to me i didn't know what was it until the fuel pump die, after replacing the fuel pump with a new one it has never done it again the car starts right away.


    check your lines..... if they are ok its your fuel pump....my

      A loss of fuel rail pressure in the absence of leaks when parked can be due to a bad high pressure pump (or only pump on late model E30's) or a bad FPR. If original, replace both.
      The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        lines are good, no visible puddles anywhere.

        Is there a way to check if it's the fuel pump?

          You can find out which is bad. Connect a gauge to the fuel rail line and start the car to build pressure. Shut off the engine and clamp the supply hose shut. If the pressure rapidly bleeds off the FPR is at fault. Repeating the test and clamping off the return line from the FPR will tell if the pump is bad. As a bonus you'll be able to determine if normal fuel pressure is present.
